10 facts on the new administrative capital

On Friday, the world’s attention was turned to Sharm el-Sheikh city where President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi addressed the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) attended by state heads, kings, officials and businessmen. Meanwhile, Egyptians’ attention was directed toward the project of the new administrative capital, which will relieve them of congestion and offer solutions for many problems.

 

Here are 10 facts about the project:

 

10. The city will be located close to Ain al-Sokhna seaport, which makes it close to the Red Sea,  thus targeting a large number of tourists.
 
 

 

9- The project is estimated to be carried out over an area of 700 kilometers, which is equal to Singapore’s area,  seven times bigger than the French capital, Paris, and 12 times the size of Manhattan.

 

8- The airport’s area will extend over 16 kilometers, which is 1.3 times that of Heathrow Airport in London.

 

7- The area of the capital’s park is eight kilometers, 1.5 times bigger than Central Park in New York and six times bigger than than Hyde Park in London.  

 

6-The entertainment area in the city will be 3.5 times bigger than Universal Studios. The central business district will be 1.5 times that of the one in Chicago. 

 

5-The governmental area will be three times bigger than the Embassy District in Berlin. 

 

4-The project includes 100 districts and 21 residential areas.

 

3- The project is expected to attract seven million people in stage one. 

 

2- The city is expected to provide approximately 1.5 million jobs upon completion.

 

1- It is expected to contribute to the Gross Domestic Product by five percent.
