10 killed, 2 injured in microbus accident in Daqahliya

Ten people were killed and two others injured in a road accident early on Wednesday when a microbus with passengers onboard overturned and fell into a canal in Daqahliya.

Major General Magdy al-Qamary, Daqahliya security chief, was notified that the incident occured in the city of Senbellawein due to mist.

Security and civil protection troops, 10 ambulances, and the chief of Senbellawein municipality headed to the site of the accident, following instructions from Daqahliya Governor Hossam Eddin Imam. It was concluded that the accident happened because of the low visibility due to mist as well as the high speed at which the microbus was travelling.

The govenor also ordered that the number of rescue troops be increased to find and recover the victims, and transfer the injured to Mansoura International hospital if necessary. He also ordered that measures for the victims' burial permissions be expidited.

Security sources said the troops were able to recover two victims and two injured. Two others are still missing.

The victims were transferred to Senbellawein public hospital. A police report was filed and referred to the prosecution for investigations.
