Egypt has been selected to host the 16th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR), affiliated to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), in May 2016 in Sharm el-Sheikh, said the Communication and Information Technology Ministry in a statement. The country is being represented through the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

The 15th GSR held in Libreville, Gabon in June 2015, highlighted the most significant measures that should be taken to improve the infrastructure of broadband services on a global level, it added.

The symposium also discussed accessibility to these services by people with disabilities, as well as other topics including e-learning, digital broadcast transition and cybersecurity.

Representatives of various stakeholders in the telecom sector, decision-makers and the most prominent representatives of the private sector from different parts of the world took part in the 15th GSR and expressed their satisfaction in selecting Egypt to host the 16th GSR, according to the statement.

The 16th GSR will bring together presidents from different telecom regulatory bodies around the world and allow them to exchange views, as well as foster open dialogue among information and communication technology regulatory bodies worldwide, the statement added.
