3,000 retailers slash prices in summer sale from Monday: Supply Minister

Egypt's Supply Minister Khaled Hanafy announced on Sunday a month-long summer sale on public and private sector goods, due to start on Monday.

More than 3,000 retailers are expected to participate in the sale, knocking prices by up to 50 percent to encourage consumers to take to the shops and boost market sales.

Hanafy said in a statement that each retail merchant can choose how much they reduce their prices by, on condition that the discount is honest, goods match standard specifications and are not sourced from unknown suppliers.

Sayed Haggag, head of the ministry's Internal Trade sector, said that inspectors will be carrying out checks on shops and markets during the sale season and will take legal action against stores that advertize sale prices and do not adhere to them.
