8 family members killed in N. Sinai blast

Eight people from one family were killed late Wednesday in North Sinai when masked men raided their home in Arish before a bomb blast rocked the area.

North Sinai Governor Abdel Fattah Harhour denied that the blast targeted a security facility. “There are no security units near that area,” the governor told Sada el-Balad satellite TV.

“A group of masked individuals stormed a house in the area and killed eight people before blowing up a car parked inside its yard. They also shot at a taxi driver and a three-year-old girl with him who died, but the driver was hospitalized,” Harhour explained.

North Sinai has been the stage of recurrent deadly attacks against army and police forces since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Most of the attacks have been claimed by the Sinai Province, an Islamic State affiliate.
