Al-Masry Al-Youm’s founder arrested: sources

Security authorities arrested businessman Salah Diab from his home in Gizam, along with his son Tawfik, early Sunday morning.

Diab, who founded Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm, had his assets temporarily frozen on Friday due to a four-year-old case accusing him of obtaining a piece of land for an allegedly favorable price and profitting from the deal.

The Interior Ministry has yet to make a statement on the arrest, while Giza security chief Tarek Nasr told Al-Masry Al-Youm he had no idea about the operation. It is not yet clear whether the arrest was linked to the lawsuit.
