Alexandria hospital workers protest delayed payments

Dozens of workers at the government-run al-Mabarra Hospital in Alexandria began a strike on Saturday over a two-month delay in the disbursement of their salaries.

Workers told reporters they had sent futile complaints to the governor of Alexandria, to which the hospital is affiliated, complaining about bad working conditions and their financial grievances.

“The hospital has become a deserted building without patients, and occupancy rates are declining,” the protesting workers stated, adding that out of 300 workers at the hospital, only seven are doctors.

They called upon the government to immediately intervene to resolve their crisis and make use of the medical instruments that are currently lying idle at the hospital.
