Amnesty recalls Egyptian detainee in anti-torture day

UK-based Amnesty International has called for anti-torture campaigners to mark an international day against torture by expressing solidarity with torture survivors held by authorities around the world.

“June 26 marks International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. It's a day when hundreds of thousands of people stand together to support those who've been tortured by authorities around the world,” the organization said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Join us as we stand with torture survivors like Mahmoud Hussein – tortured and thrown in (Egyptian) prison for over 500 days, all for just wearing a T-Shirt that said ‘Nation Free from Torture,’” the statement said.
