Analysts: The war in Yemen may turn into a regional conflict

Military and political analysts say that the Saudi-led military operation launched by 10 countries against Houthi militias in Yemen is a means to force them to sit at the negotiating table.

Lee Guofu of the China Institute of International Studies said the war may turn into a regional conflict

John McCarthy of the Australian Institute of International Affairs said Saudi Arabia would not allow Yemen to fall under the control of Iran, its main rival in the region, and did not rule out the possibility of Saudi Arabia sending ground forces there.

Saudi political experts said the Arab coalition aims to maintain Arab and Gulf security, as well as international legitimacy.

Saudi researcher Khalil al-Khalil said the Saudi decision was caused by the intransigence of the Houthis, the bad intentions of Iran and the betrayals of Yemeni leaders led by former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
