ATM, online payment of car license fees enforced

The Interior Ministry has formalized an agreement with a private electronic payment company to allow citizens to pay for their car registration, as well as traffic-related fines, via ATMs and Internet, it announced on Monday.

The agreement with Fawry will cover taxes, infractions and insurance payments for cars registered with traffic departments within the Cairo governorate, according to a statement by the ministry which said the measure is designed to facilitate procedures and save time for citizens.

After bills are paid through the new system, car owners will have their renewed registration cards delivered to their residence via courier services.

The new service, however, will not apply to new car ownership or car registration transfers between different departments. Drivers will be required to be present at the licensing department for those issues.
