Attack on Wax Museum leaves policeman dead

A policeman was shot dead late Tuesday when gunmen opened fire at security troops assigned to a southern Cairo museum.

A senior Interior Ministry source said security officers outside the Wax Museum in Helwan were surprised when masked assailants in a car opened fire at them. The attackers were able to get away after killing one of the officers.

Egypt is witnessing a sudden surge of deadly attacks as it marks two years since the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood government. One of the attacks killed General Prosecutor Hisham Barakat on Monday.

The government has always blamed the outlawed Brotherhood for backing the attacks.
