Ballots of Egyptian expats in Saudi Arabia to be dispatched Tuesday

The Egyptian mission in Saudi Arabia will send expatriate voters’ ballot papers in a few hours because two presidential candidates have said electoral fraud took place in the kingdom.

Presidential Elections Commission Secretary General Hatem Bagato postponed announcing the final results of the expatriate vote, which were scheduled to be announced Monday.

Presidential hopefuls Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh and Khaled Ali submitted complaints about the voting process at the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh and the Jeddah consulate after early results indicated Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsy took about half the votes.

A representative for Abouel Fotouh, who is a former Brotherhood leader, demanded a recount of the ballots that were received by mail. A representative for Ali, who is a leftist lawyer, filed a similar complaint and said employees at the embassy and consulate were directing people not to vote for Ali.
