Beltagy: Sisi is calling for civil war

Mohamed al-Beltagy, a leading figure of the Muslim Brotherhood, has criticised Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for calling on the Egyptian citizens to take to the streets and delegate him to confront violence and terrorism.

Sisi's speech was tantamount to a call for civil war in an attempt to defend the 3 July "military coup," Beltagy claimed in a Wednesday Facebook statement.

He added that Sisi, who had already overseen the "limited" killing of hundreds of demonstrators, is now looking for a mandate to launch "wider" reprisals against thousands of pro-Morsy supporters.

“Sisi confirmed today that he is the real ruler of the country, and that it was he who arranged 30 June,” Beltagy wrote. “Now he is calling on the military to go down again in civilian clothes.”

He concluded by saying that Sisi has not divulged where ousted President Mohamed Morsy is being held by authorities, and has refused to allow Morsy to tell his side of the story.

“Sisi camouflages his call for civil war with his call for reconciliation,” he said.

In a speech at the graduation ceremony of the Navy and Air Force academies on Wednesday, Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on Egyptians to take to the streets to mandate him to confront "violence and terrorism."

He also reiterated that the Egyptian army is united.
