Cabinet: Ashton says European aid to Egypt ongoing

The Cabinet issued a statement stating that the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, had said that European aid to Egypt is ongoing.

She had also referred to mechanisms that would contribute to the Cabinet’s economic and social program.

Ziad Bahaa Eddin, vice prime minister, met with Ashton and issued a statement confirming that both economic and political paths are intersecting and that no progress could be achieved in one without the other. He also called on Ashton to activate an European aid program in order to achieve the aspired political stability and economic growth.

Bahaa Eddin and Ashton's meeting lasted for almost half an hour, according to the statement. They tackled the Cabinet’s initiative to carry out the roadmap as well as the Cabinet's insistence to follow the roadmap according to the timeline announced earlier.
