Cannes festival program announced

Thierry Frémaux, the director of the Cannes Film Festival, announced the program of the festival's 68th session, which will be held May 13-24.

The festival list is void of Arab films with the presence one African film "Oka", directed by Souleymane Cisse.

The selection committees watched this year 1,854 films, out of which 39 films have been announced as nominees so far, Frémaux said.

No less than 50 films will compete in the festival, he added.

France is entering the festival with four movies, and Italy with three.

The British movie "Macbeth" directed by Justin Kurzel, the Chinese movie "Mountains May Depart" directed by Jia Zhangke, the Norwegian "Louder Than Bombs" directed by Joachim Trier, the "Lobster from Netherlands" directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, and "The Assassin" directed by Hou Hsia from Taiwan will all be entered to the festival along with other films yet to be announced.
