Consumer Protection Agency forms committees to ensure food safety

The Consumer Protection Agency formed committees comprising representatives of consumer protection societies and government agencies to monitor markets and meat outlets ahead of Eid al-Adha and guarantee sellers abide by food safety regulations.

Atef Ya'qoub, head of the Consumer Protection Agency, said in a statement on Friday that the agency receives daily reports on food safety from consumer protection societies.

He said the committees formed by the agency in Sohag and Beni Suef Governorates detected large quantities of rotten meat that bore fake seals.

The government confiscated the meat and sued the sellers.

Ya'qoub called on citizens to cooperate with these committees by submitting complaints to help the government control the market.
