Court obliges Journalists’ Syndicate to find jobs for unemployed members

The Administrative Court decreed on Monday that the Journalists' Syndicate is to give its unemployed members financial aid until it creates jobs for them, as per Article 3 of Law 76 of 1970, which obliges the syndicate to guarantee its members a decent life.

The court announced that the syndicate should make sure a journalist’s pen does not stop writing.

The ruling was connected to Hisham Meselhy who had filed a lawsuit saying he has been a member of the syndicate since 1998 and that he has been out of a job since the Afaq Arabiya newspaper that he was working for closed down in 2006 for political reasons. He requested a job and monthly financial assistance.
