Democratic Current to form confederation among its parties

The Democratic Current has agreed to establish a confederation among its parties, which includes Karama, Popular Current, Social Popular Alliance, Dostour, Freedom Egypt and Justice.

The current said recent negotiations among its public figures and party chiefs, including Hamdeen Sabbahi, Mohamed Bassiouny, Medhat al-Zahed and Hala Shukrallah, agreed to form a confederation out of the presidential council which will composed of chiefs of the current parties, the governorate committee and party secretaries. There will be a coordination committee to combat all forms of discrimination against women, as well as the male-dominated culture in legislations.

A freedom office will also be established to legally defend activists.

Ahmed al-Borai’e, member of the current, said the confederation can achieve social justice rules, particularly in light of the political vacuum that Egypt has suffered from since 1954. He added that Egypt has been through a critical historic phase that imposes challenges which require the unification of all democratic currents when faced with local and foreign issues.
