Director of beaten children’s orphanage released pending investigation

South Giza prosecution headed by Mohamed Shaker ordered the release of the Mona Mohamed, director of Dar Makkah orphanage in Haram, as well as Elham Eid, the wife owner of the orphanage pending investigation into the physical abuse of orphans.

A disturbing YouTube video went viral on social media where the owner of the orphanage is shown violently beating orphans with a plank of wood, kicking them, hitting them and insulting them.

The director of the orphanage denied during interrogations she knew about torturing children before seeing the video.

She identified the owner of the orphanage in the video and the seven children beaten, adding the incident may have taken place before she assumed the responsibility of her office a year ago.

Wife of the defendant said she recorded the video and filed a complaint with the Ministry of Social Solidarity but was not investigated so she filed a claim with the public prosecution.
