Egypt to attend Washington’s anti-terror conference

Egypt will attend a counter-terrorism conference slated for 18 February in Washington, a senior diplomatic source told Anadolu Agency.

The diplomat attributed Egypt’s participation in the event to the fact that it is one of the countries affected by terrorism, labelling Washington’s call for the conference as ‘positive’.

US Secretary of Justice Eric Holder had revealed that President Barack Obama was intending to call his country’s allies for the conference to discuss means for combating terrorism.

Holder’s announcement came as he participated in a world leader’s march last week in Paris that condemned the deadly attack by Islamist militants against French weekly Charlie Hebdo on 7 January, which left 12 dead, mainly cartoonists who had published satirical sketches of Prophet Mohamed.
