Egypt cancels CIQ certificate to prevent entry of low-quality goods from China

Trade and Industry Minister Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour canceled on Tuesday the memorandum of understanding signed with China in 2009, regarding the so-called CIQ certificate, required for the import of industrial goods, as certain Chinese and Egyptian traders have been proven to falsify the certificate and import low quality goods to the Egyptian market.

The minister said he is coordinating with the Chinese side to develop new mechanisms to ensure that goods imported from China comply with Egyptian standards and specifications, pointing out that the price of such goods should be proportionate to their actual value, without placing an extra burden on the importers.
