Egypt disappointed over broken Gaza ceasefire

Egypt said on Wednesday it was disappointed that a truce it helped broker in Gaza has been broken.

"This will lead to more victims and a crisis for innocent civilians," Egypt's foreign ministry said in a statement. "Egypt will resume its bilateral talks with the Palestinians and Israelis to urge them to return to the negotiation table in order to reach a permanent agreement on a ceasefire and achieve the demands of the Palestinian people."

Cairo is mediating talks between Hamas and Israel, which has been launching military operations against Gaza since July in response to missiles shot by the movement.

More than 2,000 Palestinians and 60 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the war.
