Egypt’s parliament elections runoffs begin in 13 governorates

The runoffs for the parliamentary elections' second round kicked off at 09:00 am in 13 governorates Tuesday.
 
The Education Ministry announced that Tuesday and Wednesday would be days off at schools in the governorates that are witnessing the runoffs of the second round of the parliamentary elections.
 
The runoffs cover the governorates of Cairo, Qalyubiya, Daqahlia, Monufiya, Gharbiya, Kafr el Sheikh, Sharqiya, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai and South Sinai.
 
The runoff for Egyptian expats started on Monday in 139 countries. 
 
The High Elections Commission said Wednesday that the total voter turnout for the second phase stood at 29.84 percent, confirming reports claiming the elections saw weak participation. The turnout announced by the HEC during the first stage was 26.56 percent.
