Egyptian Museum fans select ‘birth’ image as ‘piece of the month’ for July

Egyptology fans have made their first selection for "piece of the month" from among the treasures in the Egyptian Museum, selecting a stone relief depicting a woman giving birth assisted by two gods.

The item, which dates back to the Ptolemaic era, will now be placed on display in a special area of the museum through July, along with two other items selected by voters on the museum's Facebook page.

In second place is an antique wig, while third place was awarded to a blue statuette of a hippopotamus, which will also be on special display starting July 1.

The three items were selected by members of the public from a list of 10 items of special interest proposed by museum staff.

Elham Salah, head of the museums sector at the Ministry of Antiquities, praised voters both in Egypt and abroad for selecting the relief of a woman giving birth, saying the object is of great archaeological and artistic value.

She added that the participation of people in such initiatives will contribute significantly to raising awareness of Egypt's heritage and will create channels of communication between the ministry and the viewing public.
