Eid Al-Adha movie season lacks lead movie stars

The Eid Al-Adha feast movie season will seemingly be less powerful this year as top-grossing actors will be absent from the box office.

The Eid Al-Fitr movie season, on the other hand, saw a great diversity in movies screened, which was positively reflected in the box-office tally.

Though Eid El-Adha is traditionally considered the most important movie season of the year, there are only four movies currently slated for the screen after prominent comedic actress Yasmin Abdul-Aziz's movie, "E'smat Abu Shanab", was removed from the roster. The movie's producer has decided to release it either two weeks before Eid or mid-way through the school year.

Famous pop star Tamer Hosny will make his cinematic comeback after a five-year hiatus in "Ahwak", co-starring Ghada Adel, veteran Mahmoud Hemida and Ahmed Malik. The movie is directed by Ahmed Samy, who directed several of Tamer's music videos, as well as his film trilogy "Omar and Salma".  The movie, produced by Mohamed El-Sobky, will feature Tamer Hosny as a plastic surgeon who falls in love with a divorced woman. The trailer will be aired in the coming days.

Tamer Hosny has become one of the highest-grossing actors in Egypt. His seven movies have all been successful, particularly the "Omar & Salma" triology, which was an historic box office hit.

Asser Yassin will also return to movie theaters with his action drama "Mn Dahr Ragel" (A Real Man), which revolves around an aspiring boxer who is looking for a job opportunity. Yassin stars with Yasmin Raees, Walid Fawaz and Mohamed Lotfy in the movie. The film was produced by Ahmed Al-Sobky, with scriptwriting by Mohammed Amin Rady, the latter who makes his big screen debut as a first-time film screenwriter following his highly successful TV screen-writing fantasy drama "El Saba' Wasaya" (The Seven Commandments).

Sobky's popular folk-music movies strike again with "Eyal Harifa" (Adroit Boys), which is expected to perform well at the box office just as most of his past works have, including "Share' El Haram" (Al-Haram Street) and "Omar & Salwa". The movie will star popular Armenian belly dancer Safinaz, singer-dancer Bossy, Nermin Maher and popular folk singer Mahmoud El-Lithy. The movie's four songs have already been recorded in studio.

Pop singers Oka & Ortiga are making their second appearance on the big screen with "4 Kotshena" (4 Playing Cards), a movie that wrapped over 18 months ago, but whose release was postponed in favor of an ideal screening period. The group's cinematic debut was in the Sobky-produced movie "8%", which was highly successful.
