Environment Ministry’s budget LE289 million

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy said the ministry's budget for next fiscal year (2015-2016) is LE289 million, up from last year by LE65 million allocated to solid waste recycling.

Fahmy explained that the ministry spent 90 percent of last year’s budget. “It used to spend only 50 percent before, which meant it used to lose millions in opportunity cost,” he said. “That is why it is receiving the full appropriations this year.”

He said the ministry has 11 projects to carry out next year, including water and air pollution control projects and projects to develop natural reserves.

“The budget will be spent on projects that do not receive foreign funding from the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility and other organizations,” he said.
