The Freedom and Justice Party reported to the police Friday that someone broke into its offices in Giza and attempted to burn them down.
The party accused Tawfiq Okasha and his TV channel al-Faraeen, as well as former MPs Mustafa Bakri and Mohamed Abou Hamed, of incitement.
On its official Facebook page, the party said that a young man tried to set fire to its office in Meet Oqba, next to Zamalek Sporting Club, at dawn on Friday, but passers-by from the neighborhood intervened quickly and put out the fire before it could spread into the office. They tried to arrest the suspect, but he fled on a motorcycle.
The party’s media spokesperson Ali Khafagy told Al-Masry Al-Youm that at the same time of the Meet Oqba incident, some thugs tried to throw Motolov cocktails at the Muslim Brotherhood sub-headquarters in Haram, and it was reported to the police.
Khafagy said, “Is it a coincidence that headquarters of the FJP are being burnt down in conjunction with calls [from] Mohamad Abou Hamed, Mustafa Bakri and Tawfiq Okasha to organize a mass demonstration against the Muslim Brotherhood on 24 and 25 August? Since their [facebook] pages had published a picture of a young man throwing Motolov cocktails and calling for [the] burning down [of] the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood on that day?”
He added that the party would soon submit a formal accusation to the Attorney General.
