FJP: Brotherhood does not want to dominate power by nominating Shater

People should not fear the Freedom and Justice Party’s nomination of Khairat al-Shater for president, party President Mohamed Morsy said Sunday.

“The group does not thereby intend to dominate the leading official posts,” Morsy said. “We believe in sharing power.

Morsy said people who oppose Shater know he has a good chance of winning. He said the Muslim Brotherhood’s decisions are always meant for the benefit of the nation.

“The nomination is put forward for the public to approve or disapprove in a climate of freedom and democracy,” Shater said.

“We chose Shater when we noted sluggishness in the process of democratization and in the performance of the current government,” Morsy added.

The Brotherhood announced Shater's nomination during a press conference Saturday. Shater is the group's former deputy supreme guide.
