Foreign Ministry agrees with Gulf countries to delay e-passports

The Foreign Ministry said it has agreed with all responsible authorities in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar that Egyptian consulates and embassies there would delay implementation e-passports until holders return home to receive machine-readable ones.

Badr Abdel Atty, the ministry spokesperson, said on Tuesday that the arrangements come within instructions by the Minister Sameh Shoukry to offer facilities for Egyptians living in these countries who would return back to Egypt after their biometric passports are expired.

The ministry indicated ongoing communication with authorities in Oman and Bahrain for similar ends.
