GAFRD: Egypt does not produce healthy fish

Mahmoud Hussein, head of the General Authority for Fish Resources Development (GAFRD), expressed concerns that Egypt does not produce healthy fish.

This came at the Aquaculture Conference organized by the International Fish Centre on Sunday.

“Fishing in Egypt suffers from many problems that would not be overcome except with scientific research to maximize the yield of marine aquaculture,” he said. “There should be legislation helping investors in that field.”

He said the Constitution has for the first time protected fisheries in article 30 and 32, which state that natural resources belong to the people, and that the state is obliged to preserve and utilize them properly.
