A guide to festival braids

As all music-lovers know, hair care takes something of a backseat during summer festivals. Long hours of sun exposure, energetic dancing and questionable showering facilities can certainly wreak havoc with your usual routine, but there is an easy and practical solution — braids.

The infinity braid

This is a chunky, fashion-forward braid that is great for festivals as it keeps all the hair off your face and will look even better as your hair becomes more textured. You can start with dripping wet or totally dry hair too, so it's nice and flexible. Vlogger Cute Girls Hairstyles recommends taking a section from the crown and parting it vertically in two, before taking a smaller section from one side and weaving it under the first section and over the second, repeating on the other side of the head. Each time you take a side strand you add it to the strands that have already been woven under and over the center, creating the 'infinity' look. Once complete, you can pull at the braid to fluff it out, giving a looser appearance. Watch the tutorial at:

The double dutch

For twice the fun, opt for a double braid that will act as the perfect accessory to any festival outfit. According to vlogger Luxy Hair, the best way is to part the hair down the middle, brushing out any knots and clipping one section out of reach so you can work on one side of the head at a time. Take a section from the front of your chosen side, divide it into three strands and begin braiding, weaving each section under the middle one. After a few weaves, begin adding in strands from above and below the braid, working backwards towards the nape of your neck and keeping the braid tight. Once there is no more hair to add you can pause to pull sections outwards to boost the volume, before continuing down and securing with an elastic. Repeat on the other side and enjoy rocking your new look. Watch the tutorial at:

The braided ponytail

To stand out from the braided crowd, consider this ponytail with a twist. Your hair will still be held back from your face and the woven detail differentiates it from everyday styles. Hair vlogger Cinthia Truong explains that to achieve the look, you need to tie your hair back, leaving two thick sections loose at the front of the head. Divide each of these sections into two strands, and take one from each side of the head. Cross them over just above the hair elastic, then tuck them underneath, wrap them round and tie them together further down the ponytail. Split the front sections into two again and repeat. Continue the process until all the hair has been pulled back and incorporated into the style. Watch the tutorial at:
