Head of Nuclear Materials Authority resigns: sources

Electricity and Renewable Energy Ministry sources have revealed that the chief of the Nuclear Materials Authority, Nagdy Farag, has resigned due to internal disputes.

Many authority officials expressed resentment toward the Electricity Ministry's ignorance of their demands.

Al-Masry Al-Youm could not reach the electricity minister and ministry officials have refused to comment on the crisis.

The sources said upon anonymity that nuclear professors have been ignored in an attempt to force them to leave the country and migrate, thereby squandering the opportunity to take advantage of their expertise.

The Nuclear Materials Authority submitted a project to the Electricity Ministry, in which the chemical element thorium is used, but the minister ignored the project.

The sources added that Egypt has large amounts of thorium that can be used commercially to generate millions of dollars at a time when Egypt is suffering from a foreign currency crisis.
