Ibrahim Eissa: ElBaradei’s stance on Rabaa dispersal more honorable than Azhar’s

TV host Ibrahim Eissa said that former Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei’s stance regarding the dispersal of Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in was more honorable than that of Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb.

During his talk show aired on the privately-owned ONTV channel on Monday, Eissa said, “ElBaradei rejected the Rabaa dispersal and resigned, while Tayyeb described the conflict with Muslim Brotherhood, in a statement upon the dispersal, as political conflict and urged self-restraint.”

“What was the difference between what the sheikh said and what ElBaradei said for you all to accuse ElBaradei of treason and question his patriotism?” he wondered, adding that Tayyeb was the first one to call for reconciliation in the statement.

In the political fervor following the dispersals of the Muslim Brotherhood protesters, who were demanding the reinstatement of the democratically-elected Islamist President Mohamed Morsy, ElBaradei resigned in condemnation of the violent tactics that were used against the mostly non-violent demonstrators. Much of the public, who opposed the Brotherhood, consequently accused ElBaradei of treason and favoring the group.
