Imam referred to investigation over preaching without prior notification

Mostafa Ezzat Humaydan, the imam of Amr Ibn al-Aas Mosque, was referred to investigation for letting another imam, Mohamed Gebril, take his place on Wednesday evening without coordinating with the Endowments Ministry.

Meanwhile, Endowments Minister Mohamed Mokhtar ordered the reformation of the boards of al-Hosary mosque in the Sixth of October City and al-Hakim in Cairo. A ministry statement said the objective is to ensure a moderate method of preaching.

The Egyptian government has required much tighter control of mosques since the ouster of Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsy, as a means to control Islamic radicalization.
