Interior Ministry shuts down 3 Facebook accounts for inciting violence, arrests 11 suspects

The Interior Ministry's Communications and Information Technology Sector announced that three Facebook accounts were shut down for publishing material that incited people to violence. It also announced the arrest of 11 suspects for financial blackmail and fraud on the internet, according to a statement on Monday.
 
"As part of security efforts made by all the agencies of the Interior Ministry to fight organized crime in its various manifestations, particularly offences involving modern technology, the communications and information technology systems sector recorded several cases [of financial blackmail and inciting violence] during the period from January 19 to 25," the statement read.
 
The statement cited shutting down three Facebook accounts that were used to incite violence and sabotage against state institutions and citizens.
 
Eleven suspects in different governorates have been arrested for financial blackmail through the internet. 
 
Legal claims were filed against the suspects in each case, the statement added.
