Military spokesperson: Hamas member confesses to a terrorist plot in Egypt

The Second Field Army forces, in cooperation with civilian police, arrested early Wednesday in Sinai a Palestinian man belonging to the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas who reportedly confessed his intention to bomb one of Egypt's vital security installations during interrogation, military spokesperson Ahmed Ali said.

The suspect, who was in possession of a car with North Sinai license plates, had no documents approving his residency in Egypt, according to Ali.

Ali also posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday that the army arrested four extremist elements in northern Sinai, including Ahmad Azmy Hassan and Osama Ashour Badawy, the latter of whom is known to fund extremists.

Military and police raids have resulted in the burning and destruction of 28 huts occupied by extremists being used as starting points for implementing their terrorist missions, Ali said, adding that a vehicle without license plates or official documents was also destroyed.

Army forces have additionally arrested 60 suspects and seized seven rocket launchers in a crackdown in Port Said and the area west of the Suez Canal region.
