Mina death toll 148 pilgrims, 86 missing

Health Minister Ahmed Emad Eddin has announced that 148 pilgrims died in the hajj crush, 86 are still missing and 11 are injured.

“They were all buried properly and not in mass graves,” Emad Eddin added, when asked about the dead.

Additionally, the ministry’s medical mission, which is stationed in Mecca, examined 48,000 Egyptian pilgrims this season, as part of its regular services. “It [the mission] will not return until the last Egyptian pilgrim leaves [Mecca],” he said.

The minister also said that a database is in place for all registered Egyptian pilgrims. “The problem is always with the unregistered pilgrims who go on their own and not as part of the official mission,” he said.
