Minister: Maximum wage to be applied to 8,500 employees starting January

Administrative Development Minister Hani Mahmoud said Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy held a meeting Sunday to set rules for applying the maximum wage limit of LE42,000 to state workers starting this month.

In a press conference on Sunday, Mahmoud said petroleum companies and banks will apply the maximum wage during the second stage that is currently being developed by the government. He added that the maximum wage will be applied to public money representatives at shareholding companies as long as they belong to the state’s administrative body.

Maximum wage will be applied to all workers of the administrative body, including the 8,500 employees at governmental authorities. The Finance Ministry will monitor the implementation of the decision.

A meeting between the Finance Ministry and the Central Agency for Organization and Administration will take place Wednesday to set regulations for applying the maximum wage, the minister said, adding that talks are ongoing with the private sector to convince it to adopt the minimum wage.
