Minister says deadline extended for experts comments of Renaissance Dam

Egypt’s Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazy said Tuesday that the deadline has been extended to mid-December for six international consultancy firms who are expected to submit their technical and financial offers to  conduct studies on Ethiopia’s controversial Nile River dam.

Three experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia are tasked with reviewing the offers for 15 days before selecting one or two firms for the studies. Later, a meeting by the three states in Khartoum in mid-January will select the best offers.

Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia agreed in August on mechanisms for deciding on the possible negative effects of the latter’s Grand Renaissance Dam which Egypt fears would affect the water flow to its soil.

Ethiopia had frequently said that the Dam, a project it announced nearly four years ago, would bring no harm to Egypt’s water security.
