Mobile refrigerators aim to combat price hikes by offering cheaper food

The Social Fund for Development began Sunday receiving applications from individuals wanting to operate refrigerator vehicles, part of the government’s scheme to combat food price hikes and address unemployment.
 
The vehicles will offer frozen beef, fish, poultry meat and vegetables for below-market prices.
 
The project was launched a week ago by the Supply Ministry, which said the SFD would finance 70 percent of the project’s costs. Its first phase involves the provision of 350 vehicles with a five-ton capacity.
 
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said in a report in December that urban consumer inflation stood at 11.1 percent in November, up from 9.7 percent in October, propelled by soaring food prices
