Morsy and Qandil to meet over constitutional declaration developments

President Mohamed Morsy summoned the prime minister for an urgent meeting Monday to discuss economic and political developments in the country following the recent constitutional declaration, an official Cabinet source said.

The meeting between Morsy and Prime Minister Hesham Qandil came after a short meeting between Qandil and the petroleum and industry ministers, the source told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

A Cabinet statement said the burning of schools and facilities cannot be acts of legitimate opposition, and that such acts would be firmly faced with the necessary legal procedures.

Qandil stressed in a statement the government’s commitment to protecting all important facilities, denying any intention to protect some facilities and not others.

He said most citizens agree with the decision to lift subsidies on 95 octane gasoline, and that most play their roles and take responsibility in society, pointing out that the decision does not affect most citizens in any way.
