Mumps, chickenpox appear in Sohag, Red Sea

Two hundred and one students at a primary school in Sohag were found to be infected with mumps, according to the educational department in the province on Monday.
 
“An emergency was declared in the school to confront the spread of the virus among other students. Infected children were given a 15-day leave until they recover. The health department was notified to follow up on the students' condition,” according to Deputy Education Minister Abdel Aziz Atteyah in Sohag.
 
In related news, the total number of chickenpox cases at al-Shaheed Ahmed Hassan School in Ras Ghareb city reached 22, marking an increase of six new cases, according to Mohamed al-Sayyed, director general of the health department in the Red Sea province.
 
Students were given a one-week leave, according to officials at the preventive medicine sector of the department.
 
Nasra Saad Hamed, head of the sector, said a medical committee has inspected the school and classes and bathrooms were sterilized. Other students were also examined.
