Muslim Brotherhood members ruled out of second list for presidential pardon

Tareq al-Khouly, member of the presidential committee that examines cases of detainees who deserve pardon, has said that the second list is to be submitted soon to the presidency.

The list of detainees to be pardoned by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi may include up to double the number of names that was in the first list.

Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Khouly said that most of those mentioned in the list will be students, especially those arrested over participation in protests.

The committee ruled out several members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other terrorist groups. Cases of female detainees are still not being considered. Their number represents one percent of those who could potentially get the pardon.

In a statement on Monday, Khouly said that the cases are still being pondered. No date has been set to declare the second list, he said, pointing out that there is continuous communication with the presidency.

He added that the committee does not have to meet with Sisi to hand him the list.

The committee’s meeting on Monday and other meetings over the coming days will check the individual cases that were sumitted to the committee, either via email or Whatsapp, or given by hand to the committee members.

There has been consensus on most of the cases so far, without the need to vote.

The committee, according to Khouly, will meet on Tuesday with the parliament's human rights committee to tackle coordination in general and all legal aspects regarding the cases already checked by the committee.
