New Russian consulate in Hurghada inaugurated

The Russian ambassador to Egypt Sergey Kirpichenko inaugurated the third Russian consulate in Egypt on Sunday, in the city of Hurghada.

The new consulate is expected to serve about 20,000 Russians in Hurghada.

The ceremony was held at Samra Bay area, close to the Russian consulate in Hurghada Promenade street.

Several Russian and Egyptian personalities attended the ceremony, including Red Sea governor Ahmed Adallah, and members of the Russian community in Hurghada, as well as investors from the tourism sector.

The Consul General of Russia in Hurghada, Jamshed Boltaev, said that there is a large Russian community in Hurghada linked by family ties and married with Egyptians.

He added that the goal of establishing a new consulate in Hurghada is to defend the interests of Russian citizens residing in the Red Sea governorate and the Russian tourists, as well as developing Russian-Egyptian ties in the fields of culture, economy and trade exchange.

The Russian government issued a decree last November to open the Russian consulate in Hurghada, while the Red Sea Security Directorate completed the establishment of a checkpoint in front of Samra Bay area to secure the new Russian consulate building.

The new Russian general consulate in Hurghada is the third Russian consulate in Egypt, along with one in Cairo and another one in Alexandria.
