North Sinai deputy security head survives bombing

Major General Mostafa al-Zarar, deputy director of North Sinai security, survived an IED explosion on Arish's al-Bahr Street on Sunday.

Security sources said unidentified assailants planted the IED on Bahr Street and remotely detonated it when Zarar's car passed by. The bomb exploded a few seconds after the car had moved away from the scene of the incident.

Checkpoints were set up to inspect cars following the incident and a crackdown was later conducted to arrest suspects, said security sources.
