Nurse receiving protest casualties surprised by dead brother

A nurse was surprised by the dead body of her brother among the casualties she was handling during violent clashes between police and protesters in Cairo on the fourth anniversary of the 2011 uprising.

Noha Sobhy, a nurse at the Matariya Educational Hospital, said she was receiving casualties in the violent encounters between police and anti-government protesters, mainly supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsy.

“Today was a very busy day since the early morning, we received a large number of injuries and the freezers are packed with dead bodies,” she told Dream 2 satellite channel in a phone call on Sunday. “Going to receive one death case from the ambulance car, I found out it was my brother,” she added, noting that he sustained gunshots in the abdomen.

The Health Ministry said 18 people were killed during protests on Sunday in Cairo and other governorates.
