Official: Report on 4 September power outage submitted to Sisi

An official source at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said a report about the circumstances surrounding the power outage Egypt witnessed on 4 September has been submitted to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The source confirmed that there was no criminal suspicion in the incident, explaining that a technical error caused the outage, as announced by the ministry in its initial report. He denied media reports that attributed the outage to saboteurs.

"The report will be announced to the public at the right time," he added.

Major power outages had affected several parts of Egypt on Thursday leaving many parts of the country without electricity for several hours since the early morning hours.

The Egyptian government has been adopting an arranged power cut policy to reduce pressure on the national electricity network in order to meet soaring demand during summer at a time when power stations fall short of fuel needed for operation.
