Police officer jailed for fabricating claims of drug crime

Beni Suef Criminal Court has sentenced a police officer to one year of rigorous imprisonment for fabricating allegations of drug-related crimes against a citizen.

The officer was found guilty of inventing charges against a young man, alleging he possessed 14 cannabis cigarettes, before arresting him from his house in Beni Suef.

Investigations by Beni Suef prosecutors revealed that First Lieutenant Khaled Abdel Fattah, the head of Belfia Police Station, fabricated the charges against Alaa Abdel Azim, 24, from Hagez Beni Suleiman village.

The victim's brother, Ramadan Riad, testified that Abdel Azim was arrested from at his house, contradicting the police officer's official report, which stated that Abdel Azim was arrested in the street.
