Policeman killed, citizen injured in Helwan

A police sergeant was killed and a citizen was injured after unknown gunmen fired at them in Helwan.

Security sources told Aswat Masriya that two unknown assailants on a motorbike fired on a car while the policeman and his nephew were on board. The policeman was killed, while the nephew was shot in the arm. The criminals were able to escape.

Police laid blame on the Muslim Brotherhood, saying it is trying to carry out attacks to cause damage after failing to rally support.

"On Thursday, Brothehrood protesters blocked the ring road near Mounib and also blocked the Cairo-Assiut Agricultural road by setting tires on fire," police said. "However, security forces confronted them and traffic was back to normal.

Several Brotherhood members were arrested in Cairo, Giza and other governorates.
