Political groups in North Sinai to stage public strike against curfew

Several political parties and trade unions in North Sinai have called for public strike in the province on Monday as well as boycotting parliamentary elections in protest against the government extending curfew at some cities of the province.
 
During a meeting held at Wafd Party headquarters in Arish, Hatem al-Bolok, spokesperson of committee on coordination between parties and trade unions, said that the meeting came to an agreement on a public strike as well as closure of all stores and suspending work of taxis on Monday. Political parties and single-winner candidates will boycott elections.
 
The meeting was attended by representatives for parties of Karama, Wafd, Dostour, Masr Balady, Popular Current, in addition to lawyers and pharmacists syndicates, some independent trade unions, Chamber of Commerce in North Sinai and several public figures and tribesmen.
 
Another meeting will be held on Tuesday to mull escalation, Bolok said adding that a statement will be drafted for all of Sinai residents and political and executive leaders.
